Lawn Sprinklers Repair & Maintenance

Maintaining & Repairing Your Lawn Sprinkler System

Like any system with moving parts, maintaining performance is the key to keep it working at an optimal level. Because we want you to be able to maintain your system as easily and inexpensively as possible, please familiarize yourself with the information below. If you suspect that a part of your sprinkler system is not functioning properly, let us know and we will ensure that it is fixed as quickly as possible for you.

Know Your Sprinklers

The first step in maintaining lawn sprinklers is in knowing the different components and how they work together. This includes your:

  • Water Source
Familiarize yourself with the location of your water source in your sprinkler system. Often it will be located near your water meter. During the hands-on training we provide we will show you where it is located and how to shut it off if necessary.
  • Controller/Timer
Your sprinklers will operate from a timer or controller, often located in or near a garage. This should be your first option as opposed to turning water off at its source.
  • Rotary or Stationary?
It’s helpful to know what type of sprinklers you use in order to evaluate their performance. Rotary sprinklers, or gear drive, are used for larger areas and move in an efficient manner that may, from time to time, require adjustments by an All Green Lawn technician. Stationary heads are used in smaller landscape areas and spray a mist without moving.
  • Rain Sensing Devices
Rain sensors bring efficiency to your sprinklers by shutting them off when rain is detected. These are normally found in open areas that get access to rain, often near the controller, on the roof, eave, or drainpipe.
  • Control Valves
Most sprinklers include control valves for each section of your system. The lid of the valve will be green in colour.

Maintaining Your Sprinklers

Now that you know some of the key parts of your sprinkler system, let’s look at their maintenance. The key to successful maintenance is consistency. Check your system regularly for best results.

  • Jams
When checking your individual sprinkler head, check for dirt or grass that may have become lodged.
  • Clogs
Inspect the performance of each sprinkler head and look for clogs. If you notice lower water pressure, clean the sprinkler’s head filter, or call our team to repair it for you.
  • Check the Angles
Bikes, lawnmowers and pedestrians can knock your sprinkler head out of alignment. If this is the case, adjust the riser or spray head, or feel free to contact our team.
  • Check the Timer (Controller)
Are your sprinklers not activating at the correct times? A dead battery on the controller box might be the issue.
  • “Weeping Sprinkler”?
If a sprinkler head continues to leak after it’s been turned off, a worn valve may be the culprit. Contact us to inspect and replace the part.
  • Maintain Growth
Gardens and lawns grow and change over time, especially with an efficient irrigation system. Cut back growth and maintain your lawn or garden for peak efficiency in your sprinkler system.
